Finally came around to write this journal entry about one of the best days in my life.
Thanks to facebook, I've been in contact with two wonderful people before, Angie and Jörg. They're hardcore Overkill fans. Very dedicated and so nice. Lovely people. I've met them at about 1 p.m., the concert itself began at the evening, so there was enough time to do a few things.
Overkill were travelling with that huge tour bus. So we unpacked all our things that we wanted them to sign and were waiting for them to come outside.
D.D. Verni, the bass player, was the first one. He got to sign everything and we were taking photos. Awesome guy, lots of humor, sunny character.
From left to right: Angie, D.D., Jörg, and Marco, who I got to know there too.
Showing those horns!
Afterwards, I got the chance to sneak together with Angie into the concert room and to take a few pictures there. The back door stood open
Sad thing is, we missed Derek, one of the guitar players. Anyways, I didn't care so much about that because I was waiting mostly for Bobby Blitz - the singer. Waited a long time out in the cold, for apparently he slept long inside that bus haha. Then he finally came out and invited us four crazy guys inside the tour bus. Holy shit! That was too much, I couldn't quite grasp it. So I hesitated, but Marco gave me a little push.... and suddenly I stood there, inside the band's tour bus! With Bobby too! Lost my words, but luckily, Jörg chatted a bit with Bobby, telling him how many shirts he bought. Bobby instantly knew how much they were in total and laughed: "Thank you!" We went outside again for more photos. Also, I got to give him two of my drawings.
And more photos!
I brought another drawing. Didn't give it away though, but that one got signatures of the whole band.
Later on, Ron Lipnicki (drummer) and Dave Linsk (guitarist) came outside too. More signage! Really loved how patient the whole band were.
There was still some time left, so we got something to eat. Jörg and Angie, Marco I bet too, would have been inside the concert hall, listening to the soundcheck, but since I've been a new person, they were so kind to stay with me.
Then the concert. The bands before Overkill I can't really remember Right before they arrived on stage, I went through the audience and put myself in front of Bobby's microphone - of course! Third row. Close. With the first tunes, the moshpit went into action - right behind me and I got pushed into the second row haha. Glad I got one guy before me who I could use as an airbag, pillow, whatever, between the stage and the audience were those boundaries made out of steel. Not very comfortable when you're being pushed from time to time towards the front, without warning.
Anyways, Bobby winked at me a few times, and invited me to sing along, to join the mess and everything. What an awesome frontman. The last song - "Fuck you!" - was the best, everyone screamed and showed the finger haha. The next day my voice was lost, as it should be. The only annoying thing: I wasn't allowed to bring my DSLR inside, so I took pictures with my cell phone.
They're as bad as can be
And here I was, admiring Bobby bwahaha! I'm totally addicted.
After the concert, Jörg, Angie and Marco left pretty fast, and I got to know Maria. She's from Brasil so we talked in English, and here we were, standing in the cold again, waiting one more time for Bobby.
He came outside the building, we chatted again with him, there was a group of fans surrounding him and one bus wanted to leave. Nobody took notice except for Bobby, "guys! the bus!" stepped back, everyone followed bwahaha.I asked him who makes those amazing cover artworks, he began to spell that name but I couldn't quite follow so he just wrote it down on my hand. Special autograph!
In the end I hugged him, said "I don't want to let you go" he laughed. Told him, "next time we meet, you'll get even more drawings" and he kissed my cheek.
After the bus left, I drove Maria to the train station were her bus was supposed to go off but she had to wait about 5 hours in the night! I stayed, we talked a lot, time flew by.
Now I'm addicted more than before and I love the merch I bought there, now that it's winter I wear the scarf every day.
Started a scetchbook just for him. Scans will follow.
In union we stand!
